"Gets it. The first man on the Planet to reach 200 and it's the Superman from India -Sachin Tendulkar 200 from 147"
These were the words of commentator Ravi Shastri when Sachin Tendulkar steered Charl Langeveldt's ball behind point for a single and in the process became first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs.The 36-year-old hit 25 fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 200 off 147 balls.
“I don’t know how to react,” said Tendulkar. “I’d like to dedicate this double-hundred to the people of India for standing behind me for the last 20 years throughout the ups and downs. I felt that when I was 175-plus and it was the 42nd over I had a chance, but I wasn’t actually thinking of it. It was only when I got closer to it that I thought about a double hundred.”
"No records are unbreakable. Records are made to be broken and I would like to see an Indian to breaking this record.I do not play for records. I play for enjoyment and for my passion for the game. I did not start playing cricket for breaking records. It has happened over the time. But it feels great." Tendulkar said at the post match press conference.
