India skipper Virat Kohli in a chat with Gaurav Kapur on his show 'Breakfast with Champions' rubbished the notion of him being compared to the great Sachin Tendulkar.
"I don't believe in comparison. You can only compare those who are worthy of the comparison. You are comparing me to someone because of whom I started playing cricket"
"I stand no chance in terms of skill level. He's the most complete batsman ever. Then how can you even compare? I've always said it's not fair on him. Because of what he's given us, he doesn't deserve to be compared to us. This generation, no chance."
Asked about his first-ever meeting with Sachin in the Indian dressing room, Virat said, "After getting selected, the initial two days the only thing I could think about is meeting Sachin in the dressing room in any way possible. And these people got wind of it because I had told that to someone."
Virat said that Yuvraj, Munaf, Irfan and Harbhajan somehow convinced him that it was a tradition in the Indian dressing room for any new player to touch Sachin’s feet with their head, as a mark of respect. Otherwise 'No guarantees' he was told.
Virat was quick to believe them and the first time he met Sachin in the locker-room, the 20-year-old Kohli went head first onto his feet. Of course, there was no such tradition. Surprised Sachin asked him what was going on and Virat got up to chuckles from the mischief-makers.
" And I took them seriously. I go and greet him. Just as I was about to touch his feet he says,"What are you doing?" I tell him,"They told me I had to touch your feet out of respect when I meet you". He says, "No, no, they are just pulling your leg","revealed Virat.
