If we have to name a hero who unites all India as ‘ONE’ it has to be ‘SACHIN TENDULKAR’. The very persona of the man is enough to justify this statement.
His devotion towards the game of cricket and determination to achieve the best and give the best to the nation are incomparable.
He started to play as mere teenager. His age and his physical appearance surely would have got him a jeer or two from his opponents. But little did they know that he would in turn gift them with the nightmares. Neither were the cricketing conditions so easy nor were the pitches made around the world so placid for run making as they are for today’s teenagers. But as they say fortune favours the brave. His brave-heart didn’t allow him to cringe and he stood tall to make a point. And point he made, with some superb brilliance in the field of cricket. He made the cricket bat his toy to play with the bowlers around the world. Some of the very best would now confess that he did give them tough time in their prime.
He changed the way cricket was looked up on in this sports freak country. Every youngster who bursts into the arena of cricket has one name on his lips to name as his idol. That’s the inspiration and influence he has on the young generation of India. All the very legends of the game India has ever produced would in unison accept the fact that Sachin Tendulkar is the tallest amongst them all.
Today, India can proudly proclaim that it is their ‘SON’ of soil who stands at the pinnacle of cricketing glory. Highest numbers of runs in both the Test cricket and the ODIs goes on to prove the point further. A century of centuries in international crickets seems to be just around the corner too. On the way to become the highest run scorer, fittingly so, in ODI he crossed the mark of 200, a double century, which was a peak never scaled by any, thus adding another jewel to his overly bejewelled crown of glory.
What he is today is for everyone to see and wonder how does he keep up the unquenchable passion even after playing over a period of 20yrs, making and breaking records on they way. All we can do is cheer for our ‘HERO’ to carry on the mantle for as long as he can, as we join him in his good times with smile on our face and bad times with a tear in our eyes.
