It is not new for Sachin Tendulkar to set records. The Master Blaster is on the brink of two more milestones and could achieve those feats in the Ranji Trophy final against Saurashtra starting here at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday (January 26). Fans have to pay to watch Sachin in final Tendulkar is all set to become only the second Indian batsman to complete 25,000 first class runs. He will be the second after another Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar in this elite club.
Former India captain Gavaskar holds the record for most first class runs from India with 25,834 (348 matches including 125 Tests). Tendulkar is now on 24,874 runs (301 with 194 Tests). When Tendulkar walks out to bat at Wankhede Stadium in his sixth Ranji Trophy final, he will be needing 126 runs to reach another milestone in his glittering career. Also another of Gavaskar’s record is likely to be matched by the Mumbai man as he needs one century to equal the former opener’s record of 81 first class hundreds. With the match to be held in Mumbai, there is also a possibility of Gavaskar being at the stadium and seeing Tendulkar draw level on 81 tons. Gavaskar was at the stadium in Dhaka when Tendulkar equalled his mark of 34 Test centuries and he had presented him with 34 champagne bottles. This time, he might not be able to gift him 81 bottles, as Gavaskar himself joked during one of his commentary stints on TV in recent India ODI series. Tendulkar has a good record in Ranji Trophy finals at Wankhede Stadium and that could continue at the historic venue when India won World Cup in 2011
